This listing includes six mounted albumen photographs taken in the area of Thoroughfare Gap, Virginia, during the military encampment there in the summer of 1898. The photographs are:
A medical ambulance and staff next to a group of injured soldiers. The period handwritten caption on the reverse of the mount reads, “Hospital at Thoroughfare.”
A camp scene with soldiers and tents occupying the foreground and many wagons and other camps visible in the distance. No caption.
Camp scene with several soldiers looking back toward the camera. No caption.
Last of the camp scenes, again with many tents, soldiers, and wagons. The caption on the reverse reads, “Morning camp at Thoroughfare.”
A wooden corn crip is featured with a group of soldiers having out to the right silhouetted against the sky. The caption reads, “Chaplain’s Corn Crib at Thoroughfare.”
Another corn crib-like building with eleven soldiers hanging out. The two peaking out up top are yucking it up. The caption reads, “Shack at Thoroughfare.”
Each of the albumens measures about 7 7/8” x 5 3/4” and are all in very good to excellent condition. Each mount measures 12” x 10” and is in very good condition with light foxing, toning, and edge wear.
