1865 Advertisements for Cooke & Abercrombie, "Agents for the Speedy Settlement of Officers' Accounts"
Item No. 4996362
An interesting pair of advertisements for the Washington firm Cooke & Abercrombie, who offered services in the settlement of officers’ army accounts. The 3 1/2” x 2 1/4” card states: “Ordnance, Quartermasters’, and other Accounts adjusted, Bounties, Pensions, Prize Money, and all Claims against the Government collected with despatch.” The accompanying May 1865 letter (5” x 8”) further states that “especial attention will be given to the removal of Stoppages of Pay.” With the war at an end, surely this firm’s services would have been in high demand as Union officers were discharged by the thousands. Excellent condition.
