November 1863 Letter by Colonel Charles C. Crews, 2nd Georgia Cavalry, to General Joseph Wheeler's Staff Regarding Courier Line from Guntersville to Army of Tennessee Headquarters

November 1863 ALS by Colonel Charles C. Crews of the 2nd Georgia Cavalry in which Crews writes to Major E.S. Burford, a staff member of Confederate General Joseph Wheeler. Crews informs Burford that “The courier line established from my Brgd reaching from Guntersville in direction of Army Hd. Qrs. by orders from Gen. Wheeler is still on duty and I would like them to be relieved & sent to their Rgts respectively.” He further states “I have some men with Col. [James J.] Morrison that I would like to get back to the command.”

Charles C. Crews was appointed lieutenant colonel of the 2nd Georgia Cavalry in 1861, was captured on a raid in Kentucky in the fall of 1862, and led his regiment and later a brigade through the campaigns of 1863. He was promoted brigadier general in 1865.

The letter was written on one side of a 5 1/2” x 8 1/2” letter sheet. It is addressed to Major Burford on the reverse. Very good condition with light foxing and even toning. Creased at the original folds. The transcript follows:
