Item No. 6599054

This 8-page brochure, likely from around 1910-1915, is a piece of early Gettysburg battlefield tourism history. It advertises the tours available from John E. Pitzer at the Pitzer House. The cover advertises, "If you want a truthful and reliable story of the Battle of Gettysburg and a satisfactory trip over the field secure your guide at the PITZER HOUSE where you get a drive of 22 miles for $1.00 or dinner and ride for $1.25." The eight interior pages describe the armies, commanders, and locations fought over during the 1863 battle. It further mentions that "automobiles arriving at Gettysburg can secure guides at the PITZER HOUSE...also meals if desired and storage for cars at reasonable rates." John E. Pitzer (1839-1916) operated a battlefield tour business for many years from his hotel at 143 Chambersburg Street. Very good with light toning and some wear to the back cover. Good binding. Measures 3 1/4" x 5 1/4".
