A wonderful 10” x 7” albumen image with the caption “Drum Corps of 10th Veteran Reserve Corps, Washington, D.C., June, 1865.” About thirty members of the band are visible. Several hold instruments including the expected drums and fifes, but others hold horns, fiddles, and even an upright bass. The two men at the far left are playing cards, displaying the king of spades for the camera. Behind the fiddlers is a man playfully holding a very large knife in a threatening gesture. The drums in the foreground are beautifully decorated. The one sitting on its side has a very interesting design featuring a scene of a drum corps. A man seated near the center displays the disassembled pieces of a drum. The men posing on the center right have some excellent expressions and wear their uniforms in a variety of ways. These men wear a kepi with a very distinctive design of an infantry horn surrounded by two rings. Several men are puffing on pipes. This image has so many wonderful details. The albumen is in excellent condition and is secured to a mount measuring about 13 1/2” x 10 1/2”. There are a couple of chips near the upper-left corner. Even toning throughout the image with just a couple light spots. The mount itself is literally rough around the edges, including a tear on the top edge. This image is begging for a nice mat and frame that will bring out the image’s warm, rich tones.
