Offered here is a nice original Civil War veteran's ladder badge. It belonged to Samuel D. Hayes, regimental quartermaster for the 110th Pennsylvania Volunteers. Hayes also served earlier in the war in the 14th US Infantry. The shield portion of the badge features the symbols for the 2nd Army Corps (clover) and 5th Army Corps (Maltese cross), the two corps to which Hayes's regiments belonged. It measures about 3 1/4" tall and 1 3/4" wide and is in excellent condition, as shown.
